Apprentice Activity Instructor

Beaudesert Outdoor Activity Centre is located on the edge of Cannock Chase, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and offers a truly unique experience for schools and youth groups. Our 120 acres of mixed woodland and parkland offer fantastic opportunities for everyone to learn and develop outdoors.

As well as our magical setting, we have fantastic facilities and activities maintained and delivered by our amazing team of staff and volunteers who genuinely love their jobs.

Beaudesert Outdoor Activity Centre are looking for 8 apprentice activity instructors to start in February 2025 for a 13 month fixed term contract position. 

You will undergo a number of training courses, including national governing body awards in kayaking, archery, fencing, food hygiene and first aid.  You will also complete accredited courses in bushcraft and tomahawk throwing.  And to complete your training you will undergo extensive in house training and external assessment in climbing, high ropes and abseil. 

Once you are trained you instruct activities to young people from youth groups and schools.  Other duties will include some maintenance, catering tasks and cleaning tasks. 

On completion of your apprenticeship you will be well qualified and experienced for a career in the outdoor industry and there may be opportunities for a full time role at Beaudesert.

Skills and qualifications:

  • Essential: English and Maths GCSEs Grade 3 / D and above
  • Essential: A desire to work in the outdoor industry
  • Essential: Enjoy working with children
  • Desirable: 9 GCSEs

Please note: Accommodation is provided and it is expected that Apprentices will live in.  Accommodation is charged at a discounted rate.  Option to buy into a food package as well. 

Essential Details:

Salary: £6.40 per hour  (subject to increase April 2025)

Working Hours: 40 hour per week contract. This is normally over 5 days out of 7 and includes weekends and some evenings.

Open to under 18s: Must be 18 by 1st May 2025. Activity Instructors instructing high ropes and climbing are required to be 18 years of age by the end of our initial training courses and by 1st May 2025 latest to meet with our AALA and insurance requirements.
