Specialist Teaching Assistant
This Level 5 CPD and progression programme is designed for practitioners working
in outdoor education centres, mainstream schools, alternative provision and
specialist settings who use outdoor learning in a planned and purposeful way in the
education of children and young people.
Typical job roles include outdoor activity instructor, teaching assistant, specialist
educator or youth leader. The programme suits those seeking progression and
greater responsibility for designing, delivering and evaluating outdoor learning
provision.
About the Role
The broad purpose of the role is to support the education of children and young people by making specialist provision – plan, implement, and adapt activities in order
to advance learning. Specialist teaching draws on research to develop a critical understanding of the impact of outdoor learning on development. Practitioners
establish relationships with learners, families, other professionals and external agencies to support the education of the children and young people they work with. They contribute to developing a sense of inclusion and belonging for the benefit of the communities that they serve. They draw on their specialism to contribute to the evaluation of learning activities and sustainability in their educational context.
Specialist teaching assistants both reflect on their own practices and support the training and development of others within outdoor learning.
With Channel Training your focus is the curriculum provision pathway. You develop the knowledge, skills and behaviours to plan, deliver and evaluate curriculum-aligned outdoor learning that deepens subject understanding and improves engagement, inclusion, wellbeing and achievement.
