Apprentice Outdoor Instructor

 

This is an exciting opportunity for you to begin a career in outdoor learning with Entrust in Staffordshire!

Over an 18-month period, you will work and learn how to instruct a variety of outdoor activities such as climbing, watersports, cycling, orienteering, and archery to a wide range of customers. Along with this, you’ll be trained and qualified on understanding the benefits of these activities and the residential experience that encapsulates it, developing a real world understanding of outdoor learning and the potential it holds as a career.

By the end of your apprenticeship, you will be able to identify the potential and actual learning outcomes of these activities, delivering these to the accepted business and national standards, and in line with independent accreditation and adopted guidance requirements.

You will be an ambassador for Entrust Outdoors and play an active part in enabling and promoting the benefits of outdoor learning.

Entrust Outdoors has a fifty-year pedigree of providing high quality outdoor education for children, young people and adults, with the skills and expertise to deliver a wide range of outcome focused activities through their ‘Explore & Inspire’ ethos. Entrust Outdoors has well established Duke of Edinburgh Award, Youth Programmes, NCS, Educational Visits Advice and First Aid departments. Entrust Outdoors also provides outdoor adventure activities for the British Army as part of their Soldier Development programme.

All activities are led by competent, passionate and active outdoor practitioners with some great experience. Many of the team hold some of the leading professional National Governing Body awards.

Day to day duties:

  • Observing and assisting with a variety of outdoor activities in both centre and natural environments, leading to the authorisation to run these activities independently.
  • Assist with general centre tasks such as keeping the centre tidy, looking after equipment, tuck shop & site maintenance.
  • Assisting with customer care and giving them the best experience possible.
  • Working towards completing a range of training and qualifications such as First Aid, Safeguarding, Health & Safety, National Governing Body awards (NGB’s).

Skills and qualifications:

  • Level 1 (GCSE Grade D / 3) in Functional Skills Maths and English is Essential.
  • You have a desire to work with young people in the outdoors.
  • You are current and passionate in engaging in a range of outdoor activities.
  • You are open, innovative, collaborative & effective in your working behaviours & underpinning values.
  • You have high personal standards in presentation, communication and delivering customer service.
  • You have or are working towards a range of outdoor leadership qualifications.
  • You are flexible, adaptable and prepared to work unsociable hours including at evenings, weekends and school closure periods at various sites and throughout the year.
  • You have fitness levels that enable you to instruct a wide range of activities in a variety of environments and all weathers.
  • We follow strict Safer Recruitment guidance in our employment processes; therefore, we will require and check suitable references for this role and complete a new Enhanced DBS check prior to employment starting.

 

Essential Details:

Salary Details: £22,542 per annum

Working Hours: 37.5 hours. 5 days out of any 7 including at least one late evening a week. Overnights paid extra.
