Training is a vital part of any apprenticeship and for Level 3 Outdoor Activity Instructor Apprentices training can include learning how to safely scale an indoor climbing wall and instructing others to reach new heights. Using Blackwell Adventure’s purpose built indoor climbing wall it gave the Apprentices the ideal opportunity to work on co–ordination and determination as well as developing their climbing skills.
This Climbing Wall Instructor (CWI) training course was run by Andy Cummings from Manzoku Climbing and Mountaineering and took place in December 2023. The two day training course was attended by Outdoor Activity Instructor Apprentices from three outdoor centres; Blackwell Adventure, Boundless Outdoors Centres and Ackers Adventure. This gave them an opportuntity to meet and connect with other Apprentices as well as learn new skills.
The first day was held at Blackwell Adventure using their indoor climbing wall and at Redpoint Worcester for day 2.
The Climbing Wall Instructor qualification trains and assesses candidates in the skills required to supervise climbers on purpose built artificial climbing walls. It is ideal for people who work at climbing walls or at venues with permanent or mobile climbing towers.
